Premier Housewares opens the Alto showroom, Britains newest location for wholesale furniture buyers

By IFHS Team | Jul 28, 2019

Premier Housewares is proud to announce the opening of Alto, its new 25,000 sq. ft. furniture and accessories showroom in Glasgow.

Based on the banks of the River Clyde, this lofty industrial space is easy to get to by road, rail, or air. Situated in an old industrial building which has been meticulously redeveloped, it serves to complement and expand upon the established Prima showroom. "Our large stock levels mean that our customers receive their orders within seven days of visiting us, and we were keen to give them a wider selection of products to choose from when they come to see us in person."

With a combined total of 55,000 sq. ft. of showroom space we are giving industry buyers first-hand access to even more of our latest high-end products, especially from the exclusive Fifty Five South brand. The Alto showroom has its roots in the local shipbuilding industry.

During the 1980s, it was used by Kodak for film processing before falling into a state of disrepair. We acquired it and embarked upon a twelve month restoration project, being careful to protect its heritage while creating a large, airy space that accommodates a variety of styled room sets for buyers to enjoy. We believe that this new space is set to become a must-visit destination for professionals involved in the luxury furniture and interiors sector in the UK and beyond. High ceilings, original fittings, and an abundance of natural light further contribute to its unique personality.

Given their constantly updated stock levels, the room sets in the new showroom will continually evolve, rewarding return visitors with something new to discover every time. Reflecting upon the potential of the Alto showroom, sales manager Thomas McConnell said, ‘I’m really excited about how my customers will respond. It’s a truly special architectural space, and its size means that so many of our products can be viewed at once. Visitors can immerse themselves in even more key trends than ever before, including some of my current favourites like art deco and eclectic Indonesian.’

One of the main challenges has been to configure the new showroom’s interior in a way that enhances the customer experience. Emma Carberry, head of our visual merchandising team, said, ‘we have designed the Alto showroom around our clients and customers, and as a result each room setting has a really distinctive personality and showcases our hugely versatile range of products. One of the main areas we have focused on is trying to group full furniture and accessories collections together to allow customers to see the full ranges of products before they make their selections.’ A lot of thought went in to making the space as welcoming as possible. Conscious of this important factor, Emma continued, ‘while the size of the showroom is impressive the visual team have created smaller intimate room sets that showcase each product in its own unique setting.’
