Declan McCarville has been engaged as an agent and taken responsibility for Sweet Dreams sales in the Republic of Ireland from February 2019. Declan has had a varied career encompassing small independent retail operations, management in multi-million turnover furniture businesses and ultimately self-employment as a sales agent, his favourite work, he says.
His very first position in a family-owned supermarket business in Dublin helped him understand the retail business from every angle as he filled in wherever needed. He quickly discovered that customers were the best teachers and the skills he learned have been useful in his career since.
Declan is currently agent for Home of Beds/Slumbernights and for Redtree Furniture. Declan points to people as being the key to success for any company. ‘It doesn’t matter what you do – wholesale, manufacturing, retail and so on – surround yourself with great people. I have gained valuable experience from many of the great companies I have worked with in the past.’
He adds: ‘My own retail business was the best school I ever had the pleasure of attending, with different challenges every day, managing customer expectations and striving for growth and progression.’
Regarding his new role with Sweet Dreams, Declan says: ‘I would hope to add significant growth to Sweet Dreams’ business in Ireland. Sweet Dreams is a strong brand and has been getting traction with strong growth, and looking at where we are currently positioned, the future looks promising. The current product range, from an extraordinary collection of mattress and bedding to upholstery, is as diverse as it is deep, while remaining super-commercial.’
Declan lives in county Cavan with his wife, having made a decision to raise their two boys in the country. He enjoys swimming and family walks – especially as so many of his working hours are spent driving.
Nick Williams, Sweet Dreams’ Sales Manager, says: ‘Declan is an experienced agent with excellent contacts, and we’re sure his hardworking, enthusiastic approach will be an asset to Sweet Dreams as we focus on expanding our retail offer in the Irish market.’
